Advanced engineering provides ATEX solution for offshore industry.

The process of disinfecting water with UV light is a proven technology for drinking and process water in many industries, however the high standards required by the offshore industry command these systems to be engineered beyond the normal specification of many manufacturers.

When a leading offshore contractor based in Malaysia required two high specification ATEX systems for operation in Zone II Hazardous Areas, they called upon the market leaders for the offshore industry ETS to develop and design a system capable of meeting their demands.

Working closely with UK market leaders and ETS sister company atg UV Technology, manufacturer Extronics, ETS engineered and designed a new duty-stand-by packaged product for the disinfection of potable drinking water for use in harsh and hazardous environments such as oil rigs and ocean going shipping vessels.

In this circumstance, the ETS UV package comprised of two UVL-2200-6 reactors built from 316 stainless steel, arranged in a duty/ assist/standby configuration with two integrated SPECTRA control systems to ensure the system was a true duty-standby package, ensuring full automatic control of the disinfection process at all times.

The SPECTRA was housed within an Extronics Exd control panel, designed especially for use within hazardous environments.  Using microprocessor technology, SPECTRA combines many innovative features such as fully automatic start-up and shut down, multiple lamp monitoring and process interlocks. Additionally an Extronics Exe Junction Box was added to complete the ETS ATEX package design that will now provide clean and safe drinking water to offshore crews worldwide.
