ETS provide solution to chemical balance in swimming pool applications

Client: Gloucester County Institute of Technology
Location: New Jersey, USA
Service: Swimming Pool Treatment
Description: ETS UV provide an ECF UV treatment system to vastly improve the swimming pool environment.

Gloucester County Institute of Technology, New Jersey has chosen a state of the art ETS Ultraviolet treatment system for its campus swimming and leisure facility as a solution to poor water quality due to high levels of chloramines, which are the cause of sore red eyes, itchy skin, over powering chemical smells and has recently been linked to cases of Asthma in young children.

The quick and easy installation of the ETS system will provide protection for the campus pools and spa facilities by allowing operators to achieve optimum water disinfection without the use of chemicals such as chlorine.

Aquatics Coordinator, Chris Miller commented "I have been running an ETS Ultraviolet system in my facility for over 16 months now, and I cannot begin to tell you how easy it has made things from a chemical balance issue.  Because of our load, our Combined Chlorine in the form of chloramines had always been a problem, so much so that I had to shock the pool every 2 weeks.

Since turning on the UV system I have not had a need to from a combined standpoint.  At the time I had a DPD chemical controller that gave me both Free and Total Chlorine readings on a digital readout that was controlling my chemicals.  Once the UV system was turned on, the numbers which were about 5 tenths apart slowly over the course of a couple of days settled into a consistent 0 to .1 differential.  I can't tell you the euphoria I felt to watch the "Gremlin" that had taunted me for the past several years just seem to go away. It was amazing.  I really feel that it is only a matter of time that the State Health Boards begin to require it in the new construction code for indoor pools."

ECF UV SYSTEM

The system installed at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology was a state-of-the-art EFC UV system.  Designed and manufactured in Beaver Dam, WI to client specifications such as bather load and pool size, the ECF UV system features an automatic wiper to prevent the build-up of deposits on the quartz tube, protective strainer baskets and UV monitoring to ensure the systems consistently run at an optimum level.

A state-of-the-art SPECTRA control system was included to provide leisure operators with data on flow rate, UV dose and intensity.  Additionally the SPECTRA's integrated onboard data logger provides performance data which can be easily downloaded by leisure operators to a PC or Laptop for review.

UV treatment is an ideal solution for the Gloucester County Institute of Technology.  Using high output UVC lamp technology, ETS' Ultraviolet treatment systems break down problem chloramines, resulting in a more pleasant and inviting leisure environment for customers, reducing ‘Red Eye', skin irritations and the overpowering chlorine smells often associated with indoor swimming facilities.

The elimination of chloramines also produces crystal clear, sparkling water and vastly reduces the need for taxing shock treatments and backwashes.  Unlike traditional chemical treatments, the effectiveness of UV disinfection is not limited to a select number of microorganisms, and will safeguard against all known bacteria, viruses and pathogens, including organisms such as Cryptosporidium which are highly resistant to Chlorine.

ETS, with over 25yrs of experience and achievement, is a world leader in Ultraviolet technology. Strong commitment to innovation and development means that  the ETS range of UV products offers customers the best choice available when quality, reliability and consistency need to come as standard.  The full range of ETS UV disinfection systems, plus service, support and spares are available now from Engineered Treatment Systems LLC and their factory trained distributors.
